is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with key areas of
Autonomous Driving, Advanced Interaction Design, Digital User
Experience, Machine Learning, Customer Research, and Open
Innovation. In Redford, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and
eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test
durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems.
The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud
architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next
generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory
Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in
Carlsbad complete the competence center.The purpose of this
position is to develop, validate and calibrate powertrain control
functions to meet legislative and company-specific targets across
multiple hybrid and conventional powertrains, vehicles, and
markets. The main functional responsibility of this position is in
the field of base engine and emission control functions.The
development of powertrains emphasizes a system approach,
integrating engineering disciplines including classical combustion
engines, electrical components and software. Software development,
calibration and testing are performed in one group without the
traditional barriers of the disciplines.The job is to analyze AMG-
and MB-internal and external customer demands and translate them
into powertrain features, software functions and calibrations. Test
cases aredeveloped in close coordination with the internal
customers. The senior engineer is responsible for function groups.
He/She is the subject matter expert with knowledge and experience
to plan and execute all development steps required to release
function and calibration, to provide all documentation and to
support the certification effort.In ensuring the conformity to
development targets, rigorous testing, issue analysis, and issue
resolution are required. The development approach includes
resources such as SiL/HiL, test rigs and dynos (fuel economy and
emission tests) and test vehicles.Job Responsibilities:Perform
engine control function development and calibration to meet
legislative and company-specific targets across multiple (hybrid-)
engines, vehicles, and markets.The work includes but is not limited
to base engine and emission control functions.Typical functional
areas are: hybrid operating strategy; Predictive operating strategy
functions; Engine load shift; Charging; Operating modes state
machine; Start functions; E-motor and ICE idle control; E-motor and
ICE anti jerk function; Pedal calibration; Torque path; Lambda
control and adaption; Catalyst heating, temperature maintenance;
Thermal protection and O2 storage balancing; Catalyst oxygen
storage determination and catalyst oxygen purge; Engine start and
enrichment; Canister purge control diagnostic functions; Stop/Start
strategy; Combustion and base engine functions; Exhaust
after-treatment functions; Direct Injection Fuel System; Adaption
functions; Fuel cut off, and On Board Diagnostics (OBD)
functions.Perform development and validation testing in vehicles,
on SiL/HiL setups, on test benches, on roller dynamometers and on
the road.Develop and manage calibration variants supporting
multiple vehicle types and target markets.Participate in test trips
for cold, hot, and high altitude development and validation.Analyze
and summarize data.Contribute to the formal documentation for
release and certification.The senior engineer is responsible for
function groups. He/She is the subject matter expert with knowledge
and experience to plan and execute all development steps required
to release function and calibration, to provide all documentation,
to align inter-project expert groups and to support the
certification effort.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor / Master's in
Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering.Formal school
training on engineering fundamentals, automotive, hybrid
powertrains and components such as internal combustion engine,
e-motor, transmission, inverter, battery.Hands-on experience with
test bench, dynamometer and in-vehicle calibration. Able to work
independently in vehicle and other testing environments.Hands-on
experience with calibration development tools such as ETAS INCA and
Vector CANalyzer/CANape, Matlab.Calibration experience in the field
of base engine and emission control functions.Function development
experience with software development and/or calibration in embedded
software environment; programming skills in C/C++, Target link,
Auto-coder and knowledge of software development methods and
processes a plus.Hands-on experiences using on Software-in-the-Loop
and/or HiL for testing. Knowledge of and experiences with Matlab
/Simulink /Stateflow. Simulation experience helpful.Competence in
understanding and solving complex engineering problems. Able to
explain technical problems and solutions to management.Strong
planning and organizational skills. Teamwork and communication
skills as well as intercultural skills to drive assigned topics and
coordinate stakeholders across three continents and different
time-zones with minimum supervision.Self-motivated to grow
technical knowhow in assigned engineering areas. Self-study and
fast learning skills. Able to propose and implement creative
solutions. Willingness to train other employees in the subject
matter.Professional confidence in making engineering decisions.
Able to clarify issues, set up goals, collect information, get
resources and make sound engineering decision on technical
issues.Excellent data analysis and presentation skills.Knowledge of
MS Office programs, email clients, and databases.Willing to travel
domestically and/or internationally as required.Experience with
hybrid powertrain and direct injection gasoline engines.
Calibration experience in other areas such as e-motor, base
engine/combustion, OBD and emissions optimization.Ability to
facilitate issue resolution in cases of conflicting requirements
between emissions, drivability, diagnostics, and fuel
consumption.Valid driver's license.Preferred
Qualifications:Experience with control function development is a
plus.Experience with high ethanol content fuels is a plus.In depth
emission certification & regulatory experiences is plus.German
